'Goggy'* — Digital Painting / Photo Study - Fall 2020
* I think it was my oldest nephew who called dogs,'goggys,'
when he was very little — and thinking of that still makes me smile.
A few years ago, I was using pastel pencils a lot and drew
the first
iteration of this poochie 'photo study' in my sketchbook way back then.
One day I found that original drawing and had a laugh at
how TERRIBLE it was — SERIOUSLY — so I snapped a photo of it
and took it into digital painting software to see if I could improve it.
I started out in Photoshop because I already had it on my desktop
PC — but around that time I bought a new laptop and was looking for less
expensive painting software alternatives and thought I'd give Krita a try.
https://krita.org/en/
Krita is open-source freeware — and I discovered it is FANTASTIC.
I REALLY LOVE IT!
Krita has excellent preset and editable brushes, color
palette
options,
and an intuitive interface which is similar to
Photoshop's — so I was up and running with it in no time.
In fact — Krita is now my "go-to" digital painting software.
Anyway — back to this "sketch" — I simply digitally
painted over the
original pastel pencil — an decided to leave the
"evidence" that it originally came from my sketchbook.
